This week in review

We had a fun-filled week in first grade!

In writing we are learning how to write an informational story. On Monday everyone in the class made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and we concentrated on the steps we took to make the sandwich. The rest of the week the students have been working on their own writing about how to make their favorite sandwich. I was so caught up in the making of the sandwiches that I did not get any pictures of it, but I did get some pictures of students hard at work completing their circle maps for pre-writing and their flow maps for their rough drafts.

One day this week we also endured a power outage for the first 30 minutes of the school day. We made the best of it and ate breakfast in the hallway. The students did a great job and it added a little excitement to our day! :) Here are a few pictures of us in the hallway.

On Thursday we had a program on fire safety. The Barrow County firefighters came and taught us how to be safe in a fire. Parents, make sure you have a designated spot away from the house for your family to meet you in case of a fire. That way everyone can get out of the house as fast as they can to ensure safety. The firefighters also brought a firetruck and an ambulance for us to look at and learn more about.
